Question 1

What is ProteinFit?

Accepted Answer

ProteinFit is an AI meal scanner for iPhone and Android that estimates the calories, protein, carbs and fat in a meal from one photo or a barcode. ProteinFit is built by DjioniDev for people who train, with goal modes for muscle gain, cutting and sport weight loss, and is available in English and French.

Question 2

How does ProteinFit scan meals?

Accepted Answer

You take a photo of the plate and an OpenAI vision model identifies each food, estimates portions and returns calories, protein, carbs and fat with a confidence score. Packaged food can be scanned by barcode instead, using the Open Food Facts database of more than 4 million products from 150 countries.

Question 3

How much protein do I need to build muscle?

Accepted Answer

The International Society of Sports Nutrition (2017) recommends 1.4–2.0 g of protein per kg of body weight per day for most exercising people, in doses of about 0.25 g/kg (20–40 g) every 3–4 hours. The ProteinFit app sets 2.0 g/kg for muscle gain, which is 160 g a day for an 80 kg athlete.

Question 4

Does ProteinFit estimate protein?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Protein is the primary metric in ProteinFit: every scan shows the protein estimate first, followed by calories, carbs and fat, and the daily dashboard is built around a protein progress ring.

Question 5

Can ProteinFit help while cutting?

Accepted Answer

Yes. In cutting mode ProteinFit raises the protein target to 2.2 g per kg of body weight and sets calories 15% below maintenance, keeping protein visible while you eat in a deficit because higher protein helps preserve lean mass. ProteinFit tracks intake; it does not guarantee results.

Question 6

How many free scans do ProteinFit users get?

Accepted Answer

The ProteinFit free plan includes 5 AI meal scans per week. When they run out, you can watch a short video to earn one bonus scan, or upgrade to ProteinFit Pro for unlimited scans.

Question 7

How much does ProteinFit Pro cost?

Accepted Answer

ProteinFit Pro costs $3.99 per month or $34.99 per year on the US App Store; the yearly plan works out to about $2.92 per month. Pro unlocks unlimited weekly scans, a detailed macro breakdown for every meal, AI coaching tailored to your training goal and an ad-free app.

Question 8

Is ProteinFit available on Android?

Accepted Answer

Yes, as a beta. Join the proteinfit-testers Google Group, then opt in on Google Play with the same Google account. You can also install the APK directly from the ProteinFit website, though subscriptions are not available in the direct install yet.

Question 9

Does ProteinFit work for restaurant meals?

Accepted Answer

Yes. You can scan a restaurant plate the same way as a homemade meal. Results are estimates, and restaurant cooking oil, sauces and portion sizes vary more than home cooking.

Question 10

Is ProteinFit a medical nutrition app?

Accepted Answer

No. ProteinFit provides meal estimates to help you understand your nutrition. ProteinFit does not give medical advice, diagnose conditions, or replace a registered dietitian or healthcare professional.
