1.6–2.2 g of protein per kg of bodyweight, daily. For a 75 kg (165 lb) hybrid athlete, that's roughly 120–165 g a day. Lean toward the top of the range during a heavy training block or a cut; the middle works fine during a maintenance phase.

Spread that protein across three to five meals rather than backloading it into dinner. Your body handles muscle repair better with repeated doses through the day than one large serving, and a Hyrox training week rarely gives you a clean, single recovery window — you're often training again within 24 hours.

Carbohydrate is not optional

This is where a lot of strength-focused athletes trip up moving into hybrid training: they keep a bodybuilding-style low-to-moderate carb intake and wonder why their engine falls apart on the rower or during the back half of a simulation. Race week and race day

In the days leading into a Hyrox event, most athletes benefit from easing training volume while keeping food intake steady or slightly increasing carbohydrate — the classic "taper but keep eating" approach that lets glycogen stores top off without adding unnecessary training fatigue. Race morning, a light, familiar, carbohydrate-forward meal two to four hours out is safer than experimenting with something new; race day is not the time to test a food you've never eaten before a hard effort.

During the event itself, hydration and, for longer or hotter races, some form of quick carbohydrate (a gel, a sports drink) can help maintain output through the back half. None of this needs to be complicated or expensive — consistency with what you've already practiced in training beats anything novel.

Recovery: the part everyone skips

A Hyrox training week can include a strength session, a running session, and a simulation or interval day, often with less than 24 hours between the hardest ones. That schedule leaves very little margin for recovery to happen by accident — it has to be built in through food. A solid post-session meal with both protein and carbohydrate, eaten within a couple of hours of finishing, helps you show up for the next session rather than dragging through it on residual fatigue.

Sleep and total daily protein matter more than the exact timing of any single meal, but the athletes who recover best from back-to-back hybrid sessions are consistently the ones who treat every training day — strength, run, or simulation — as a day that needs a real recovery meal, not just the "hard" days.
