- Sleep and easy movement help too, but they don't substitute for giving your body the raw material it needs to actually rebuild the tissue.
Mistakes that slow recovery down
- Treating it as a pure carb sport. Carbs fuel the effort; protein rebuilds what the effort damaged. Both matter, at different moments.
- Front-loading race week, then forgetting after. Runners obsess over the carb-load before a big race and go quiet on nutrition once it's over — right when protein needs are highest.
- Chronic under-fueling during heavy blocks. High weekly mileage burns a lot of energy; if total intake doesn't keep pace, protein gets used for fuel instead of repair.
